Memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the oversight of youth justice services across England and Wales

This document is an agreement on the monitoring and oversight of youth justice services across England and Wales. It is between Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation (HMIP), the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and the Youth Justice Board for England and Wales (YJB). It sets out their main responsibilities with regards to the monitoring and oversight of youth offending services across England and Wales. This follows the YJB’s split of functions in 2017 and the introduction of HMIP’s new inspection methodology.

Memorandum of understanding for the Arrangements for the oversight of probation services in England and Wales

This document is between the Ministry of Justice, HM Prison and Probation Service and HM Inspectorate of Probation.  It sets out a clear and unified approach to oversight of the probation system as from the introduction of the inspectorate’s new inspection methodology from April 2018.  It sets out for providers of probation services and for the wider public the oversight model, its key working relationships and underlying principles, as well as the key aspirations for the oversight of probation.
