Rehabilitation and release planning
Rehabilitation and release planning
Prisoners are supported to maintain and develop relationships with their family and friends. Prisoners are helped to reduce their likelihood of reoffending and their risk of harm is managed effectively. Prisoners are prepared for their release back into the community.
Children and families and contact with the outside world
The prison supports prisoners’ contact with their families and friends. Programmes aimed at developing parenting and relationship skills are facilitated by the prison. Prisoners not receiving visits are supported in other ways to establish or maintain family support.

Reducing risk, rehabilitation and progression
Planning for a prisoner’s release starts on their arrival at the prison. Each prisoner has an allocated case manager and a custody plan designed to address their specific needs, manage risk of harm and reduce the risk of reoffending.

Interventions
Prisoners are able to access interventions designed to promote successful rehabilitation.

Specialist units
Personality disorder units and therapeutic communities provide a safe, respectful and purposeful environment which allows prisoners to confront their offending behaviour. In recognition of the special nature of work in units for men with personality disorders and therapeutic communities, we augment our standard expectations to take account of some of the differences we expect to see.

Release planning
The specific reintegration needs of individual prisoners are met through an individual multi-agency plan to maximise the likelihood of successful reintegration into the community.

Leadership and management of rehabilitation and release planning
