HM Inspectorate of Prisons invites you to the launch of our thematic report, Minority ethnic prisoners’ experiences of rehabilitation & release planning, from 9am to 10am on Wednesday 28 October 2020.

The report details the findings of our thematic work to better understand Black and minority ethnic (BME) prisoners’ and Gypsy, Roma and Traveller (GRT) prisoners’ experiences of rehabilitation and release planning. The report discusses BME and GRT prisoners’ experiences of rehabilitative culture and their relationships with staff working in roles intended to support rehabilitation and release planning.

The findings are drawn from analysis of nearly 7,000 prisoner surveys and fieldwork in eight prisons.

At the launch event, Peter Clarke (HM Chief Inspector of Prisons) and Hindpal Singh Bhui (Team Leader) will provide an overview of the key findings of the thematic work and will discuss the extent to which the distinct rehabilitation needs of BME and GRT prisoners are being identified and met.

The overview will be followed by an opportunity to ask questions of the inspectors who undertook the work.

We hope that this launch event will encourage discussion of how our findings and recommendations might be built upon in future work.

The report will be available electronically on our website on 28 October.
