Our equality objectives

We have set ourselves three equality objectives.

  • To make sure that those we inspect perform their roles in accordance with the Equality Act 2010, where applicable, as part of our core inspection work
  • To make sure all our staff are treated fairly, and in accordance with the Equality Act 2010, while at work
  • To make our organisation accessible to all

As a listed public authority in the Equality Act 2010, we are required to prepare and publish these objectives at least every four years. They also provide a way for us to fulfil the Public Sector Equality Duty, which we have committed to meeting. The Duty requires public bodies like HMCPSI to consider the need to:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation, and other conduct prohibited by the Equality Act 2010
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people from different groups
  • Foster good relations between people from different groups

Developing the objectives

To produce these objectives, we involved a representative group of HMCPSI staff.  This group captured the views of all staff and reviewed the objectives to make sure they are still relevant. The group recommended the appointment of  a Diversity and Inclusion Champion who would report into the operational board.

The Diversity and Inclusion Champion is responsible for promoting Diversity and Inclusion throughout HMCPSI and supporting the Board in the delivery of the objectives.
